A line of costal railway from Malaga, the capital of the same named province of Andalusia, to the city of Estepona was mentioned as the priority for the team of the new President of Andalusia.

José Antonio Griñán, who became the new President of the Junta de Andalusia recently, visited Malaga city on 30 April. At the press conference, he promised that thanks to the new railway the journey from Malaga to Estepona would take 35 minutes maximum. He also mentioned that the building of the high-speed railway would require an involvement of big sum of money. However, José Antonio Griñán is sure that the building is reasonable.

The cities, which the new railway is intended to link, are extremely popular with tourists. They are belonged to the resort area called Costa del Sol that is situated in the South of Spain. Estepona is located 80 kilometers to the West of Malaga. The nearest to Estepona railway stations are in Fuengirola (40 kilometers to the East) and San Roque(40 kilometers to the West). The only attempt to construct a railway to Estepona was interrupted by the Civil War in 1936. The building hasn’t been continued till now.
