Hotels in Andalusia were successful during summer 2010. Tourist industry of the region over the past peak season experienced the increase in hotel registrations. The total number of 11329245 registrations in the cities and resorts in Andalusia, including the famous Seville, Cordoba, Granada and the Costa del Sol, for 156,000 registrations outnumbered the summer of 2009. Main driving force that enabled hotel industry in Andalusia to grow was domestic tourism. The Spanish tourists were able to compensate the decline in traditional Andalusian hotel customers - the Germans and the British.
For Andalusia growth in the hotel segment confirmed predictions of Spanish politicians and economists, who called the tourism sector one of the first industries to overcome the effects of global crisis.
According to the National Statistics Institute, in July and August in Andalusia were recorded 11,173,239 check-ins. The number of reservations made by the Spaniards was 7,469,485, it is an increase of 2% above last year's figure. Foreign tourists have made 3,848,898 registrations at hotels in Andalusia, which is 0,1% more than in July-August 2009.
The growth, which was showed this summer by the hotels in Andalusia, was lower than projected. Industry experts in early 2010 counted on a figure of 5%.
Among the typical Andalusian hotel industry factors of the current season was reduction in duration of stay.
Among the negative trends in the tourism industry is reducing of foreign tourist inflow. 1,043,756 is the number of foreigners visiting Andalusia in August 2010 according to the National Statistical Institute. The reduction in August 2009 was 4,5%.
