On October 12, 2011 near the coast of the Spanish city of Almeria located in the south-east of the country will start the 8th stage of the Extreme Sailing regatta series. Extreme Sailing Series is a unique project, where the best professional sailing teams compete with each other on similar sailing catamarans Extreme 40, which can reach the speed 70 km/h (maximum for sailing ships).
Among the fans of sailing sports Extreme Sailing Series enjoys the same popularity as Formula 1 among the car racing lovers. Therefore, all races are held close to the shore (within the line of sight) to enable all viewers to watch events in details. Each stage lasts for 3 days, during which teams start several times and participate in long and in short races.
Extreme Sailing Series is held in nine different locations on three continents. The regatta received the "special event status" from the ISAF (International Sailing Federation) due to the active promotion of sailing. Competitions are broadcasted is more than 100 countries. Extreme Sailing Series is so popular that tickets for the sectors of the shore, as well as rooms in the nearby hotels are sold out several weeks before the event.
