Films such as “La muerte tenĂa un precio” and “Por un puñado de dĂłlares” made Los Albaricoques a natural film location. As a filming location for Westerns, the village is known as “Albaricoques de Cine.” Local people from the surrounding area took part in the filming during this era of cinema in Los Albaricoques.
Culture and History
The Cortijo del Fraile is located in the immediate vicinity of Los Albaricoques. It is associated with the “Crimen de NĂjar” of July 22, 1928. Federico GarcĂa Lorca’s drama “Bodas de Sangre” is also associated with the cortijo.
As part of its traditional architecture, the nearby Cortijo del Fraile includes a chapel and a crypt. Other features include arcaded courtyards, fountains, and cisterns.
The annual Ferias y Fiestas programme includes a celebration in Los Albaricoques from July 10 to 12, 2026.
Film history, literary references, and traditional building forms thus come together directly in this place. The connection extends from the historical events of the “Crimen de NĂjar,” through Lorca’s drama, to the architectural elements of the Cortijo del Fraile. The local involvement in the filming is also part of this history.
Cycling and Hiking Trails
A combined cycling and walking route connects Los Albaricoques with the Cortijo del Fraile and Rodalquilar. The route promotes sustainable mobility and enhances the landscape of the nature park. In this connection, Los Albaricoques, the Cortijo del Fraile, and Rodalquilar are three named places along the same route.
The cycling and walking route therefore connects the three named places Los Albaricoques, Cortijo del Fraile, and Rodalquilar and runs through the landscape of the nature park.
The Sendero Requena can be reached from Los Albaricoques via the ALP-824 track leading from there to Rodalquilar. After 4.6 km, a turn-off leads to the Cortijo de Requena. The access point to the Sendero Requena is located at the Cortijo de Requena.
The route description specifies a sequence of track, turn-off, and access point: From Los Albaricoques, follow the ALP-824 towards Rodalquilar; after 4.6 km, turn off towards the Cortijo de Requena, where the access point to the Sendero Requena is located.
Remains of mining can be seen along the Sendero Requena. Traces of cereal cultivation are also among the remains along the route. The elevated, table-shaped summit of the Sendero Requena offers views of the Mediterranean.
The same route therefore features traces of two different uses: mining and cereal cultivation. The elevated, table-shaped summit forms the viewpoint of the route; from there, the view described extends to the Mediterranean.
The Aljibe del Cortijo El Campillo de Doña Francisca II is located on the route from Los Albaricoques to Rodalquilar. The Cortijo del Fraile–Montano–Hornillo hiking trail is reached from Los Albaricoques via a paved track and begins at the Cortijo del Fraile.
Landscape
The Cortijo del Fraile–Montano–Hornillo hiking trail passes through a varied landscape of mountains and agricultural plains. It also includes natural areas that are predominantly steppe-like in character.
Along this route, mountains, agricultural plains, and steppe-like natural areas therefore alternate. The landscape description includes both cultivated plains and largely open natural areas, complementing the historical traces at the Cortijo del Fraile.
