Culture and History

Cueva del Cañaveralejo shows evidence of use dating back at least to the transition from the Early to the Middle Neolithic. A Chalcolithic phase has been documented for the same cave; a transition to the 2nd millennium BC is considered likely.

The Iglesia de San Andrés Apóstol has three naves. On each side, the naves are separated from one another by five arches. The church is the oldest of the three religious buildings open to visitors in Adamuz.

The Torre del Reloj in Adamuz was built in 1566. It was commissioned by Luis Méndez de Haro, Marquis of Carpio. Visiting the tower is free of charge. A reservation at the tourist office during its opening hours is required to climb to the viewing platforms. Two separate details must therefore be noted for visiting the tower: admission is free, but climbing to the viewing platforms requires the aforementioned reservation at the tourist office.

Adamuz is crossed by the historic Camino Real de la Plata. The route is a transit route between Córdoba and Toledo. Thus, in addition to its historical name, its connection between these two cities has also been handed down.

Landscape and Routes

The Montes Comunales de Adamuz combine Mediterranean woodland and planted pine forest with mountains, valleys and numerous watercourses. The landscape features therefore include both types of forest as well as the aforementioned landforms and watercourses.

The Montes Comunales de Adamuz offer more than 20 kilometres of signposted paths. These paths are distributed across a total of six circular routes. A permit from the Oficina de Turismo de Adamuz is required to use the routes.

The Ruta Mohíno-Algallarín is a circular route with a gentle profile. It lies on the Adamuz–Montoro section of the GR-48. Its starting point is on the CO-3102 road near the Arroyo del Caño. The information on the Ruta Mohíno-Algallarín combines its circular nature with its gentle profile, the GR-48 section and the specifically described starting point on the CO-3102.

The route passes through olive groves and holm oak forests. Traditional stone walls line these olive groves and holm oak forests. On the outward journey, the Ruta Mohíno-Algallarín covers 6.5 km and has an elevation difference of 109 m. For route planning, it should also be noted that the 6.5 kilometres and the 109 metres of elevation gain refer to the outward journey.

Events

The Fiesta de San Andrés Apóstol is celebrated in Adamuz on 30 November. Canterá includes a tasting of traditional Canteros. This includes extra virgin olive oil from the Sierra de Adamuz. In addition to the culinary components of Canterá, 30 November is also a separate date associated with the Fiesta.

Olive oil tastings are part of the programme at La Botijuela. Tastings of typical products and gastronomic competitions are also planned. Thus, in addition to olive oil, the event lists typical products and gastronomic competitions as programme components.
