Torrequebrada: Beach, Golf, Art and Watchtowers
Coast
The Playa de Torrequebrada has moderate wave conditions for swimming. At the same time, Playa de Torrequebrada is considered an urban beach. Access to the beach on foot is considered difficult and is therefore one of the geographical features of this section of the coast. There is a viewpoint on the upper level of the Paseo MarÃtimo de Torrequebrada. A staircase leads from the street to the Paseo and connects the street area with the promenade. The viewpoint is therefore located on the elevated section of the Paseo MarÃtimo. The staircase is identified as the connection between the street and the Paseo.
In Benalmádena, the section of the Senda Litoral called “Torrequebrada – Conexión Paseo MarÃtimo†is in use. It is 1,513 metres long; its name refers to its connection with the Paseo MarÃtimo. The name of the section mentions both Torrequebrada and the Paseo MarÃtimo. The length is given as 1,513 metres and describes the extent of this designated coastal section.
Golf
Golf Torrequebrada has 18 holes. The course was founded in 1976 and designed by José Gancedo. Its fairways are lined with palm trees, pine trees and olive trees. From Golf Torrequebrada, there are views of the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains. The design of the course is characterised by the three named tree species along the fairways. The view extends from the golf course towards the Mediterranean Sea and in the direction of the mountains.
Art
The tunnel next to the Torrequebrada Casino was transformed into an outdoor art gallery during a stop of the Liga Nacional de Grafiti. Ten works of art are permanently exhibited in the Torrequebrada tunnel. The artworks are located inside the tunnel itself and can be seen there permanently. The location connects the tunnel next to the casino with outdoor art and the aforementioned graffiti event.
History
The Torre VigÃa de Torrequebrada is considered to have been built by Muslims on a steep hill at Punta Negra. The watchtower is cylindrical and seven metres high. Its strategic location enabled views of the coast of the Alboran Sea. The hill at Punta Negra and the cylindrical shape are among the described features of the tower. The height of the watchtower is seven metres.
The Torre Quebrada is part of the Islamic-medieval network of watchtowers along this coast. At the end of the 16th century, it was rebuilt with its present-day geometry. The Torre VigÃa de Torrequebrada was able to communicate with other towers and nearby settlements using fire and smoke. Fire and smoke served as the means of communication. The rebuilding at the end of the 16th century refers to the present-day geometry of the Torre Quebrada.
