Last week Madrid authorities prepared excellent news for the shoppers, who prefer to go shopping on weekends and holidays. From now on all kinds of shops will be able to open on any day of the week and work 24 hours a day!
The new law on "business acceleration", which gives any commercial establishment complete freedom in choosing the timetable, was adopted by the government of the Madrid Autonomous Community for economic recovery and revitalization of commercial activity in the region.
Thus, the new law gives commercial establishments, including retail stores, business insurance and financial sector, as well as companies involved in real estate activities in Madrid the full freedom to open at any time on public holidays and weekends.
In practice it means that any can operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without restrictions to meet the insatiable appetites of shoppers at any time of day or night.
In addition to a significant liberalization of commercial establishments, the new law eliminates all types of licenses needed to start business in Madrid replacing them with a much simpler "responsibility declaration."
According to the preliminary estimates of the Department of Economics and Finance in Madrid, the new law will help to increase GDP and create over 20,500 new jobs in the region.
The largest shopping retailers, including Decathlon, Primark, Carrefour, FNAC, Zara, Stradivarius, Pull and Bear has already stated they would certainly use the new law to please their customers with weekend and holiday shopping.
