In Fondón, the Ruta Patrimonial de las Casas Señoriales y Burguesas leads to historic aristocratic and bourgeois houses in Fondón. The houses date from the 17th to the 19th century.
The route can be complemented by a visit to the Casa Palacio de las Godoyas and its exhibitions.
The historic Pósito de Fondón is an Alpujarran granary. Its original construction dates from the final years of the 16th century or the first years of the 17th century.
The Iglesia de San Andrés is a church built in the 16th century and representative of Mudéjar art. Its square structure comprises four sections, including a Goyesque pointed spire.
The Ermita de la Virgen de las Angustias was built in the 17th century and expanded in the 18th century.
In 1694, the Archbishop of Granada, Don MartÃn de Azcargorta, approved the constitutions.
The historic tour thus extends from residential houses and a former granary to religious buildings and a documented ecclesiastical decision. The different building functions and dates make the local history visible at several independent stops.
Fountains and Local History
The Fuente de Carlos IV is a stone monument erected during the reign of Carlos IV. Five bronze spouts are designed in the shape of lions.
Three of these spouts lead into a stone basin and two into a livestock trough.
The structure thus combines the representative monument with a precisely described practical use. The different arrangement of the spouts is as much part of its design as the lion shapes of the bronze elements.
Hiking Trails
The El Púlpito-La Parra hiking trail (PR-A 373) runs along the slopes of the Sierra de Gádor. The route passes through pine forests and Mediterranean scrubland.
The Mirador del Púlpito is recommended as a viewpoint on the El Púlpito-La Parra hiking trail (PR-A 373). The orchid bloom in spring is highlighted along this route.
This route therefore brings different landscape impressions together: the slopes of the Sierra de Gádor, wooded sections, Mediterranean scrubland, and the aforementioned viewpoint. The highlighted orchid bloom additionally identifies spring as a special time of year for the trail.
The El Chaparral-Acequia del Lugar hiking trail (PR-A 203) includes a heritage section along its route. This section passes through Fondón and Fuente Victoria.
On the descent, the trail follows the Acequia del Lugar to the Molino del Barranco.
The local Fondón-Las Acequias del RÃo hiking trail (SL-A 181) is easy. It is suitable for families and can be used in every season.

When travelling from inland areas, the A-348 leads from Benahadux via Rágol to Fondón.
From the AlmerÃa coast, Fondón can be reached via the A-7, N-340, A-358, A-347, and A-348.
The two route descriptions thus mention both the connection from inland areas via Benahadux and Rágol and the sequence of roads from the AlmerÃa coast. In both descriptions, Fondón is the destination.
