The drovers’ road bears the full name “Vereda de las Veredas a Calabazares”. It is walkable along its entire route and connects the villages of Las Veredas, Almonaster la Real and Calabazares.

Hiking

The PR®-A 448 “Las Aldeas de Poniente” hiking trail passes through Las Veredas. The first section of the “Sendero Aldeas de Poniente” hiking trail follows the old Camino Real de Mérida and crosses various ecosystems.

The “Sendero Almonaster y aldeas de Poniente” hiking trail is 11.7 kilometres long and follows a circular route. The stated trail length and designated circular route can be taken directly into account when planning your own day trip.

On the route from Las Veredas to Acebuche, the trail initially follows the HU-8107 road for approximately 350 metres. It then turns right onto a path currently signposted as a hiking trail and crosses the Huelva–Zafra railway line via an underpass.

Las Veredas can be reached via the same road that also leads to the hamlets of El Arroyo and Acebuches. A section of the drovers’ road “Vereda de las Veredas a Calabazares” runs parallel to the Barranco del Fresno, at an average distance of approximately 100 metres, and then reaches the village of Las Veredas.

The route therefore includes named roads, paths and an underpass alongside historical and landscape landmarks such as the Camino Real de Mérida and the various ecosystems.

Culture

Las Veredas maintains its own variation of the Fandango de la Cruz, particularly the “repicao” fandango. Its name derives from striking the tambourine.

At the celebration at Cruz del Hoyo, the serranas gather at around 6:30 p.m. They sing their Coplas del Romero and begin the procession through the streets of the village of Las Veredas.

The Cruz del Hoyo de las Veredas is celebrated on the second weekend of May. For planning your schedule around this festival, there is therefore a fixed May weekend and a starting time of around 6:30 p.m. as specific time details.

The celebration combines the gathering point at Cruz del Hoyo with the singing of the Coplas del Romero and the subsequent procession through Las Veredas. The village name thus appears both in the festival’s name, Cruz del Hoyo de las Veredas, and in the name of the village.

The traditional houses in Las Veredas are predominantly single-storey. They have an attic as well as an inner courtyard or garden.

Nature

The “Encuentros Micológicos” took place in Las Veredas in several editions. These editions included events on 23 and 24 November and on 25 and 26 November 2023.

The two pairs of dates fell on consecutive weekends in November 2023.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Las Veredas, the village name remains the direct point of reference for your stay.
