The government of Andalusia intends to be one of the first in Spain to impose sanctions against institutions that violate came in January 2011 law banning smoking in public places.
The first institution, which may suffer punishment, is a restaurant in Marbella on the famous resort of Costa del Sol. For refusal to comply with the norms of the new law the owners of the establishment can face a fine of 145,000 euros. That is the amount proposed by the administration of Andalusia.
Asador de Guadalmina is the restaurant, which has openly declared its opposition to the new law, in which in the opinion of the owners, were not taken into account the interests of restaurant businesses in Spain. Asador de Guadalmina was the only restaurant in Andalusia, which has not agreed to change the conditions of work and still receive smoking clients.
Anyway, the government of Andalusia has already sent an official warning to the owner of Asador de Guadalmina Jose Eugenio Arias, in which states that the failure to comply with Spanish law may entail the closure of the restaurant.
To make a final decision on the format of the restaurant authorities gave Jose Eugenio Arias two weeks. If the owner refuses to comply with the law he will be penalized. It is worth noting that the penalties range from 10,000 to 800,000 euros, depending on the severity of the violation.
Asador de Guadalmina is a restaurant that became famous throughout Marbella thanks to the active rejection of the new ban on smoking. In the window of the restaurant owners have placed a poster with an invitation to spend an evening in the “last restaurant for smokers in Marbella”.
It is worth noting that the new ban has caused a wave of protest among owners of restaurants and hotels in Spain. To date in a total 5,000 establishments across the country ignore innovation and continue to provide services in former format.
