Jaen is situated in the northeast of Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia. It’s the capital and the biggest city of the province Jaen. The population is 117000 people. The city is surrounded by fertile valleys and olive groves. The vast majority of the Jaen citizens are farmers, the city is considered the world capital of olive oil.
Jaen is becoming more and more attractive to tourists. The main city sight is Jaen Cathedral. Its building was begun in 1570 and finished in 132 years. Jaen Cathedral is built in Renaissance style. You can also see Saint Catalina's Castle that was founded by Arabian, but after conquest of the city by Spaniards in 1246 the fortress was rebuilt in Christian style. You should surely visit the Arab Baths, the biggest Moorish baths in Spain. They are located in Villardompardo's Palace.
Visiting Jaen you should pay attention to the International Museum of Naive Art, the Museum of Arts and Popular Customs, and the Provincial Museum of Jaen (with plenty of archeological records). The most important and the oldest in Spain piano competition takes place in the city. It’s called the International Piano Competition Premio Jaen. If you like common rock music you can visit the Lagarto Rock Festival or the Ciclos de Rock.
